Primeira Liga

  • Just one point currently separates Porto (60) and Benfica (59) at the top of the Primeira Liga. The competition has been won by one of these two teams in each of the last 17 seasons, dating back to the 2002-03 campaign.
  • Benfica were recently overtaken by Porto at the top of the Primeira Liga, having failed to win four of their last five games in the competition (D2 L2). Before this run of results, Benfica had only failed to win two of their first 38 games in the Primeira Liga under manager Bruno Lage (W36 D1 L1).
  • Despite being the current leaders of the Primeira Liga, Porto lost their season opener away at newly-promoted Gil Vicente. This was the first time they had lost their opening game of a Primeira Liga campaign since 2001-02 (v Sporting CP).
  • The longest winning streak in the Primeira Liga this season was recorded by Benfica, who won 16 consecutive games between September 2019 and January 2020. This was the longest winning run within a single Primeira Liga season since Porto between December 2010 and May 2011 (also 16 games).
  • Porto own the best home record in the Primeira Liga in 2019-20, picking up 31 points from their 12 games at the Estádio do Dragão. They have won more games (10), lost fewer (1) and conceded fewer goals (6) than any other side at home.
  • Bottom side Desportivo Aves have won just 13 points in the Primeira Liga this season – the fewest of any team through their first 24 games of a campaign since Tondela in 2015-16 (also 13).
  • Famalicão are currently the highest-placed of the three promoted teams in the Primeira Liga (7th). Their total of 37 points is the most by a newly-promoted team at this stage of a Primeira Liga campaign since the 2007-08 season (44 – Vitória Guimarães).
  • Benfica have conceded the fewest goals of any team in the Primeira Liga this season (14). This is their fewest after 24 games of a league campaign since 2016-17 (13); a season in which they went on to win the title.
  • The average age of Famalicão’s starting XI’s in the Primeira Liga this season have been just 23 years and 349 days – the youngest of any team in the competition.
  • Porto have scored at least once in each of their last 38 games in the Primeira Liga – this is the longest such streak in the competition since September 2011, when Porto themselves saw a run of 43 consecutive league games scored in come to an end.
  • Benfica are the only team yet to drop points from winning positions in the Primeira Liga this season, while no side has won more than them from losing positions (11 – joint-most along with Moreirense).
  • Braga are unbeaten in the Primeira Liga in 2020, winning nine of their 10 games (D1). They are the only side yet to suffer a defeat in the competition this year, while they are also the top scorers with 25 goals.
  • Carlos Vinicius is the top scorer in the Primeira Liga this season with 15 goals – among players who have netted five or more goals, the Benfica striker also owns the best minutes per goal ratio in 2019-20 (87 mins/goal).
  • Moreirense’s Fábio Abreu is the top scorer in the Primeira Liga in 2020, having netted seven goals in 10 games since the turn of the year. Abreu has averaged a league goal every 121 minutes this year, compared to one every 266 minutes between August and December 2019.
  • Benfica midfielder Pizzi is the only player to have been directly involved in 20+ goals in the Primeira Liga this season (22 – 14 goals and eight assists). Indeed, since the start of last season, he is the only player to have had a direct hand in 50+ goals in the competition (53 – 27 goals and 26 assists).
  • Braga’s Trincão has been directly involved in nine goals in the Primeira Liga this season; the most of any player aged under 21. He has also scored in each of his last three appearances in the Primeira Liga (20y 68d) – the youngest player to net in three in a row since João Félix in February 2019 (19y 92d).
  • Rúben Dias is one of only two outfield players to have played every minute in the Primeira Liga this season (2160, along with Jadson), while no individual has ended on the winning side in more league games than the Benfica defender in 2019-20 (19).
  • Mehrdad Mohammadi has been directly involved in 52% of Desportivo Aves’ goals in the Primeira Liga this season (12/23); the highest ratio of any player in the competition for his team.
  • No team have scored more 90th-minute winning goals than Braga in the Primeira Liga this season (2), with both of those coming in 2020 and netted by the same player. Paulinho is the only player with more than one 90th-minute winner in the competition this term.
